Bavarian S 3/6

On 16th June 1908 the first Bavarian S 3/6 (number 3601) was delivered by the company Maffei. The locomotive was a development of the first German Pacific, the Badische IV f with a 2C1 wheel arrangement. The Bavarian S 3/6 has a completely cast base with firebox support and a large cylinder block made out of one piece of cast iron. The advanced four-cylinder locomotive uses superheated steam for the initial expansion and reuses it in low pressure cylinders. This allows the locomotive to reach a top speed of 120 km/h.

The first locomotives didn’t have a streamlined driver’s cab. Over the years, there are several series been build. Some series receive the well-known “Windschneidenführerhaus”. A blue locomotive showed it in 1910 at the World Exhibition in Brussels. A total of 159 of these locomotives were built between the years 1908 and 1931.
